Sion is a 10 MW Run-of River Hydro plant, situated in Parlilitan, North Sumatra. The project is a partnership between Anantaka and Toyo Energy Farm, Japan. Sion is awarded the JCM – Joint Crediting Mechanism facility by the Government of Japan (https://www.jcm.go.jp).
Construction started in May 2018 and achieved COD in Aug 2020. Sion is expected to generate clean electrical energy of 63 gigawatt per annum with the capacity factor 66%.
The Aek Simonggo River, which is the location of SION HEPP, is very reliable in maintaining the stability of water sources supported by its water catchment area of 279 KM2 where 3.500 MM of rainfall will make reliable electricity generation. Since the early stages of the SION HEPP project study, it has been reviewed by a foreign expert from USAID for the feasibility study, as well as a consultant from Norway – SWECO who also reviewed the basic design and the detail design made by Chodai, Japan. Construction was carried out by Indonesia-Japan PMA Contractor and the project supervisory by a Japanese Consultant Management, so that the construction of the building was good and with a futuristic design, different with hydro power designs in Indonesia. The SION HEPP generator uses a Voith Fuji turbine whose efficiency is quite reliable with the install capacity max 12 MW.
